Gionee last year launched World’s Slimmest phone dubbed as s5.5 and seems like the company wants to be in limelight yet again standing way ahead against its competitor with its new USP. Gionee launched a thinner as well as lighter smartphone with dual Sim Functionality and several other enhancements as Elife S7 at a price of 24,999 INR.
The Gionee S7 is powered by 64 bit 1.7GHz octa-core Mediatek MT6752 processor with 2GB of RAM, 5.2-inch AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution. Storagewise, it comes with 16GB space while there is no microSD card support. Gionee S7 is company’s first device with the latest Android version.
Design & Build :
Design is something which Gionee has put lots of efforts in its S Series Smartphones. The S5.5 and s5.1 were Slim and had great quality, same way, S7 is also not just any smartphone. Gionee S7 sports U frame which makes it look even more stylish. Being 5.5 mm thin and weighing 126 gm, S7 is made up of metal and glass. The phone feels sturdy in hands as far as its grip is considered. Unlike s5.5, where it had a bump for camera, S7 has flat back panel.
Gionee S7 has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on both sides, i.e front and Rear. The power button and volume rockers are placed onto the right side of the phone unlike s5.5 where these were on left side. Bottom of the phone holds Speaher, micro usb and 3.5mm audio jack. The left side of phone has a dual SIM tray. All in all, phone quality is superb and it feels amazing in hand.
Gionee Elife S7 comes with the 5.2 inch FHD Amoled Display featuring screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. S7 Display has perfect colour reproduction along with great sharpness. One can easily use the smartphone under the sunlight and we also do not have any complaints about its viewing angles.
Navigation buttons are provided on the display only and there are no touch capacitive buttons. The S7 Display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 but is prone to finger prints. But, overall, Display quality of the Gionee S7 is very good.
Gionee S7 features a 13 MP rear Camera with led flash while for the video calls and Selfies, it has 8MP Camera. The 13MP camera is capable of shooting FHD videos and offers variety of feature for still clicks. One such feature is the Magic Focus where in, you can change the focus after clicking the image. One should not complain about its front camera at any cost which is really good for the selfies.
The rear camera performed average in our case when comparing it with devices like Mi4 etc. The photos sometime contained noise in low light scenarios while it works well in bright daylight. The 1080p recording samples of S7 are also pretty good.
Gionee S7 features Amigo 3.0 as an added layer over the Android 5.0. Amigo 3 UI is much more smoother than its earlier versions. Comparing to s5.1 and s5.5 where UI was somewhat laggy, S7 gives a lighter and lag free UI Experience.
The quick toggles can be activated by swiping up from the bottom of display similar to iOS where as notification centre can be opened via swiping from the top of the display. This time, widget support has also been take care off. Amigo UI is more polished and more smooth.
It also offers basic customizations but the choices are very limited as of now and you cant download more themes. There is a Chameleon app which helps you customizing the colors of setting and other options in the phone using the camera.
Various Smart gesture features such as smart brightness, smart answer works, double tap to wake and sleep help daily activities alot. The phone also comes with a system manager app which allows you to clean up cache, manage apps and also data traffic limit.
Performance wise, Gionee S7 is the beast. I have been using this device as my daily driver and I never faced any issues or lag or whatsoever. The phones comes with 16 gigs of storage which we are not happy about since users these days need more storage for their content. There is no expandable memory slot similar to the case s5.5 and s5.1.
Gionee Elife S7 is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6752 octa-core processor which is a 64 bit processor and is coupled with 2GB RAM. Gaming wise, the phone did pretty well and no lag was observed while playing Asphalt 8. The phone does get heat up slightly which is obvious due to the back glass panel.
The s7 comes with 2700 mAh battery which I believe is less for the hardcore user. Had it been around 3000mAh, this would have surely surpassed the Storage bottleneck. Still, for an user, who uses his phone for social media and calls, S7 can sail the entire day. The S7 also offers battery modes such as normal mode and battery saver mode (extreme). The extreme mode helps increasing the uptime of phone by disabling all the features and enabling just call and sms feature. This way, standby of extra 7 – 8 hours can be achieved.
- Dual Sim 4g Enabled
